Notes...Having sheep graze in the vineyard cuts down on energy intensive mowing, but has its pitfalls once the vines grow and the grapes emerge. Yealands Estate, a Marlborough winery that’s renowned for environmentally sustainable initiatives, has come up with an all-season solution. Our flock of Babydoll miniature sheep stand barely two feet tall. Too short to reach the fruit, these pint-sized organic-weeders provide year round mowing and pest control, plus a handy dose of fertiliser. Nurtured from the ground up with sustainable practices and produced in a carboNZero certified winery, the pure and intense flavours of Babydoll reflect the winery’s innovative thinking in tune with the environment.
This wine shows lifted notes of blackcurrant, melon and citrus. The palate is lively and full with tropical fruit, and balanced with a dry, crisp finish.
Winemakers Notes... We harvested individual parcels of Sauvignon Blanc and fermented each parcel individually, selecting three for the Babydoll Sauvignon Blanc, two from Seaview Vineyard in the Awatere Valley and one from Grovetown Vineyard in the Wairau Valley.
Grapes were crushed, de-stemmed, chilled and pressed gently, with minimal handling. After two days cold settling the clear juice was racked from the lees then underwent a long cool fermentation in stainless steel tanks for four weeks to ensure optimal fruit characteristics were captured and maintained. Post fermentation the wines were racked off fine lees and left to settle. Prior to bottling the wine was stabilised and filtered.
Occasions... Perfect at home as your preferred tipple. Also makes an excellent choice when out and about at friends or restaurants. Won't let you down anywhere.
Food...Vegetarian, Salads, Cheeses, Fruit, Fish, Shellfish, Chinese, Pasta
Tosh Says...Just a fabulous wine from the supremely popular Marlborough district of New Zealand. For its price I think it is one of the very best wines around and puts many of its direct competitors - much higher in price I might add - to shame.
